The story of Black tears

Black Tears is inspired by “Lágrimas Negras”, the legendary Cuban song of love and heartbreak, telling the story of a woman whose sorrow spilled into a vat of rum, filling it with raw emotion.

Just like “Lágrimas Negras”, Black Tears is crafted to express that authentic Cuban emotion, similar to music but composing this time with the local flavours: rum, coffee, cocoa, and aji dulce. Just like the song, the taste of Black Tears expresses our love and compassion towards our island.

That spirit lives in every bottle.

Nose

A rich and lyrical aroma unfolds, revealing warm notes of toasted oak, stewed fruits, golden honey, and a medley of inviting spices. As it lingers in the air, subtle undertones of freshly brewed coffee and velvety cocoa begin to emerge, adding depth and complexity to the sensory experience.

palate

The sweetness of chocolate, nougat, and rich cream gently unfolds on the palate, gradually revealing bold tones of aji dulce sweet chilli pepper. It is well balanced, complemented by the distinctive, characteristic note of Cuban rum.

finish

A gentle, honeyed warmth spreads across the palate, embracing the bold richness of freshly brewed coffee. This comforting blend is lifted by a subtle yet persistent trace of peppery spice, which lingers pleasantly, adding a layer of complexity that endures long after the first sip.

what makes the perfect cuban spiced rum

Exceptional
Molasses

Black Tears Dry Spiced is distilled from exceptional molasses, sourced from four mills in Ciego de Ávila, near the centre of our island.

Our molasses undergoes a double fermentation, the first being a small batch, high temperature blitz for four hours, followed by a large batch, lower temperature vat fermentation for ten hours.

The processing of our rum results in an extremely low sugar content – just 9g of sugar per litre. That creates a deliciously complex bittersweet taste, and allows the other flavours in our rum to truly shine.

Our Cuban rum stands apart due to its unique use of Aguardiente, a spirit distilled from our hand-picked molasses at 74–76% alcohol.

The aguardiente is aged for at least two years in white oak barrels, forming the ‘ron madre’. This base is then blended with fine alcohol and aged further, creating the rum base.

Through multiple cycles of blending and re-casking, the rum develops depth and character. And only when fully matured does the Master Blender craft the final blend. Ensuring balance, complexity, and the unmistakable essence of Cuban rum.

Cocoa, Coffee, and aji dulce

Black Tears Dry Spiced is flavoured with the taste of Cuba itself - coffee, cocoa and sweet aji dulce.

And because of our uniquely Cuban production process, our rum contains less sugar than almost all other spiced rums on the market – just 9g per litre.

That gives our rum its delicious flavour, and helps accentuate the bitterness from the coffee and cocoa, counterbalancing the natural sweetness from the rum and aji dulce, to create a truly special spiced rum.
